The Genealogical Institute on Federal Research Alumni Association (Gen-Fed Alumni) annually presents the Richard S. Lackey Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $600 to an experienced researcher holding either a paid or volunteer position in the genealogical community.

The scholarship covers full tuition for the Genealogical Institute on Federal Records, ticket to the alumni dinner; and partial travel, hotel, and meal costs. The winner will have a reserved slot in Gen-Fed.

Download the  Gen-Fed Alumni Lackey Scholarship Application Form. The deadline is December 31, 2017.  All applications and additional attachments must be submitted in PDF format, combined in one file. The completed application form and attachments should be emailed to Angela McGhie at with “Lackey Scholarship 2018” in the subject line. The PDF file name should include last name and first initial, such as “McGhieA Lackey Scholarship 2018 Application.”

The American Society of Genealogists offers an annual Scholar Award, based on a manuscript or published paper of at least 5,000 words. The award carries a $1,000 grant, applicable towards tuition and expenses at one of five major academic genealogical programs in the United States. Awardees may choose to attend the Genealogical Institute on Federal Records with a guarantee spot.

NEW FOR 2017!

AncestryProGenealogists Scholarship Program offers four scholarships, one to each major genealogical institute including Gen-Fed, covering tuition, airfare, and accommodations to qualified applicants who “demonstrate a commitment to genealogy as a profession, a desire for professional development, and the ability to communicate that commitment and desire in writing.”

Applications are due December 31, 2016. The winner will have a reserved slot in Gen-Fed.
